Getting Around SJO Airport
The airport features two main terminals: the Main Terminal (M) and the Domestic Terminal (D). The Main Terminal handles international flights, with major operators including Avianca and Copa Airlines. The Domestic Terminal caters primarily to Sansa Airlines. Both terminals are connected, making it convenient for travelers to transition between domestic and international flights.
For ease of navigation, the airport is well-signposted in both Spanish and English. Key areas such as check-in counters, security checkpoints, and baggage claim are clearly marked. Additionally, there are information desks located throughout the terminals where staff can assist with directions and other inquiries.
While moving through the airport, travelers can take advantage of several amenities. There are three business lounges available: Avianca Club, Copa Club, and the VIP Lounge for BAC Credomatic customers. These lounges offer a comfortable space to relax before your flight. For those needing to stay connected, Wi-Fi is available throughout the terminal areas.

Security & Screening

Locations of Security Checkpoint(s)
SJO has several security checkpoints located throughout the airport. The main security checkpoint is located on the second floor of the terminal building, near the entrance to the departure gates. There are also additional security checkpoints located at the entrance to each individual gate area. Be sure to allow enough time to pass through security, especially during peak travel times.
Fast Track Lanes and Locations
Fast Track lanes are available for passengers who want to expedite their security screening process. These lanes are located at the main security checkpoint on the second floor of the terminal building. To use the Fast Track lane, passengers must have a valid boarding pass and be a member of a participating airline's frequent flyer program or have purchased a Fast Track pass. The Fast Track lane is a great option for passengers who are short on time or who want to avoid long lines.
Passport & Immigration Control Locations
Passport and immigration control is located on the first floor of the terminal building, near the baggage claim area. All passengers arriving in Costa Rica must go through immigration control, regardless of their nationality. Be sure to have all necessary travel documents, including a valid passport and any required visas, before arriving at the airport. The immigration process can take some time, so be sure to allow enough time to pass through immigration and collect your baggage.

SJO Airport offers a variety of food and shopping options for travelers. The main terminal has a food court with a range of restaurants serving both local and international cuisine.
