Terminal 1 Info & Layout
Terminal 1 at Ninoy Aquino International Airport, also known as the Ninoy Aquino Terminal, is dedicated to handling international flights. This terminal spans 73,000 square meters and was designed to accommodate up to six million passengers annually. It is historically significant as the site of the former senator Ninoy Aquino's assassination in 1983. Originally opened in 1982, Terminal 1 is the airport's second oldest terminal.
Major airlines operating from Terminal 1 include Philippine Airlines, which uses it as its international hub, and Royal Air Philippines. Other international carriers such as Air China, Asiana Airlines, Japan Airlines, Korean Air, and Saudia also operate from this terminal.
Terminal 1 features a total of 18 gates. Over the years, it has undergone several renovations to improve passenger experience, including expanding the arrival area and enhancing structural integrity with buckling restrained braces.
Passengers can access Terminal 1 via pedestrian walkways, and it is connected to other terminals within the airport complex. Although there is no automated transport system directly linking Terminal 1 with other terminals, plans for future interconnections are underway.
A unique aspect of Terminal 1 is its historical architecture, designed by the renowned Filipino architect Leandro Locsin. Despite its age, the terminal continues to serve as a crucial hub for international travel at Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
