Getting Around WLG Airport
The airport operates a single terminal divided into three piers: south, south-west, and north-west. The main terminal building houses a common check-in area on the first floor and a baggage claim area on the ground floor. Both areas connect to a retail and refreshment zone on the first floor, which also offers views of the runway. This layout allows travelers to navigate between check-in, security, and boarding gates with ease.
To help you find your gate, note the following:
- South Pier: Gates 3 to 12 serve regional aircraft.
- Main Terminal: Gates 18 to 20 also serve regional aircraft.
- South-West Pier: Gates 13 to 17 are mainly used by Air New Zealand domestic jets, with all gates except Gate 14 featuring jetbridges.
- North-West Pier: Gates 21 to 29 serve Jetstar domestic jets and all international flights. These gates are renumbered as Gates 41 to 49 when used for international flights.
For lounge access, Air New Zealand operates three lounges: the Regional Lounge on the second floor for regional travelers, the Domestic Lounge in the south-west pier for domestic travelers, and the International Lounge in the north-west pier for international travelers. Qantas also has a lounge in the north-west pier, available to Qantas Club members on international flights. Navigating between these areas is straightforward, with clear signage throughout the terminal.

Locations of Security Checkpoint(s)
Wellington Airport has multiple security checkpoints located throughout the terminals. The main security checkpoint is located on the ground floor of the main terminal building, near the check-in counters. There are also additional security checkpoints located in the regional gates area and the international terminal. It is recommended that passengers arrive at the airport at least 2 hours before their flight to allow enough time for security screening.
Fast Track Lanes and Locations
WLG Airport offers Fast Track lanes for eligible passengers, including those with premium airline status, business class tickets, or those who have purchased a Fast Track pass. The Fast Track lanes are located at the main security checkpoint in the main terminal building, as well as at the regional gates area and the international terminal. These lanes allow passengers to bypass the regular security queues and expedite their screening process.
Passport & Immigration Control Locations
The passport and immigration control areas at the airport are located in the international terminal. Upon arrival, passengers will proceed to the passport control area to have their passports checked and stamped by New Zealand immigration officials. The baggage claim area is located directly after the passport control area. Departing passengers will go through passport control after checking in for their flight and completing security screening. It is important to have all necessary travel documents ready and available for inspection by immigration officials.
