Airasia, with IATA code AK, is a Malaysian low-cost airline headquartered in Kuala Lumpur. It was founded in 1993 and started its operations in 1996. Tony Fernandes, a Malaysian entrepreneur, is the founder and CEO of the airline. Airasia has subsidiaries in several countries, including Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, India, Japan, and others.
As of the most recent data available, Airasia has over 24,000 employees and operates an average of 500 flights per day to more than 150 destinations across Asia, Australia, the Middle East, and the United States. The airline has a fleet of over 250 aircraft, including Airbus A320, A330, and A350, and Boeing 737 and 777.
Airasia is one of the largest low-cost airlines in the world and has carried an average of 100 million passengers annually in recent years. The airline's revenue for the most recent year was over $3 billion.
