China Southern Airlines Pet Policy

China Southern Airlines understands that pets are important members of your family and they want to make sure they can travel with you. Here is everything you need to know about their pet policy.

If you plan to travel with your pet on China Southern Airlines, it is important to make a reservation as soon as your travel plans are confirmed. You can do this by contacting the Customer Service Team at (+86) 400-869-5539 or at the time of your original booking. It is recommended to make your application at least 72 hours prior to your flight departure time. This will ensure that your pet has a spot on board.

Unfortunately, small pets are not permitted to travel in the cabin on China Southern Airlines flights. However, you can still transport your small animals such as dogs, cats, birds, or other household pets as checked baggage. Each passenger is allowed to travel with one small pet or two household birds in the same carrier.

Guidance, Tips, & info on Airlines and Airports

To qualify for transport in the hold, the combined weight of your pet and carrier should not exceed 70 lbs (32 kg). It is important to note that animals do not count towards a passenger's free baggage allowance. You will be charged an excess baggage fee between 450 and 2000 CNY, depending on the weight of your pet and carrier.

When traveling with your pet as checked baggage, there are certain weight and dimension restrictions to keep in mind. Carriers must not exceed 15" x 23" x 39" (40 cm x 60 cm x 100 cm) or be smaller than 2" x 6" x 8" (5 cm x 15 cm x 20 cm).

It is important to note that there are restrictions and limitations on certain dog breeds and snub-nosed dogs and cats. China Southern Airlines does not allow the following breeds to travel on their flights: Affenpinscher, Boston Terrier, Boxers (all breeds), Brussels Griffin, Bulldog (all breeds), Bull Terrier, Pug (all breeds), Cane Corso, Chow Chow, Dogue de Bordeaux, English Toy Spaniel, Japanese Chin/Japanese Spaniel/Chin Chin, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Lhasa Apso, Mastiff (all breeds), Pekinese, Presa Canario, Shar Pei, Shih Tzu, Tibetan Spaniel, American Bull, Yankee Terrier, and Staffordshire Terrier.

Keep in mind that air carriers can change these policies at any time, so you should always check directly with China Southern Airlines before you book for the most accurate and up-to-date information.
