Delta Airlines Partnerships & Alliances
Delta Airlines is a founding member of the SkyTeam Alliance, one of the world's three largest airline alliances, formed in June 2000. This membership affords Delta a global network of 1,150+ destinations in 175+ countries. The SkyTeam Alliance fosters seamless coordination among its member airlines, enabling passengers to earn and redeem frequent flyer miles across all carriers in the alliance. This greatly expands Delta's global reach and improves the travel experience for its passengers through benefits like shared airport lounges, coordinated schedules for easy connections, and a more comprehensive customer service experience.
Delta Airlines has numerous codeshare agreements, in addition to the interline partnerships it shares with other SkyTeam members. Notably, these include partnerships with Virgin Atlantic, WestJet, and Air France-KLM. The codeshare agreement with Virgin Atlantic, for instance, allows Delta to sell seats on Virgin Atlantic flights, providing its passengers with a wider range of destinations, particularly in the UK and Europe. Similarly, the partnership with WestJet expands Delta's presence in Canada, while the one with Air France-KLM extends its reach in Europe.
Beyond its codeshare agreements, Delta has formed joint ventures with several other airlines to share both the costs and revenues on certain routes, further enhancing its global network. Among these are transatlantic joint ventures with Air France-KLM and Alitalia, as well as Virgin Atlantic, allowing coordinated scheduling and shared revenue on routes between North America and Europe. Another prominent joint venture is with Korean Air, facilitating travel between North America and Asia.
Additionally, Delta Airlines has established some unique partnerships beyond the airline industry. Notably, it has a strategic partnership with American Express, offering Delta SkyMiles Credit Cards that allow cardholders to earn miles on everyday purchases and enjoy exclusive travel perks. Furthermore, Delta has agreements with several hotel and car rental companies, enabling Delta's frequent flyers to earn miles on their bookings with these partners. These innovative partnerships extend Delta's reach beyond the aviation industry and offer additional benefits to its loyal customers.
