Fiji Airlines: Aircraft Fleet
Fiji Airlines, formerly known as Air Pacific, is the flag carrier airline of Fiji. The airline operates a fleet of 10 aircraft, consisting of both narrow-body and wide-body planes.
The airline's fleet includes 2 Airbus A330-200, 1 Airbus A350-900, 4 Boeing 737 MAX 8, and 3 Boeing 737-800 aircraft. The Airbus planes are used for long-haul flights to destinations such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Sydney, while the Boeing planes are used for shorter flights within the South Pacific region.
In 2018, Fiji Airlines made a significant deal with Boeing to purchase 5 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, with an option to purchase 5 more. However, due to safety concerns with the Boeing 737 MAX, the airline grounded its entire fleet of MAX planes in 2019 and cancelled its order for the remaining 5 planes.
Despite the setback with the Boeing 737 MAX, Fiji Airlines has continued to expand its fleet and route network. In 2020, the airline announced plans to acquire 2 Airbus A350-900 aircraft, which will allow it to launch new routes to destinations such as Japan and the United States.
