Fiji Airlines History
Fiji Airlines, formerly known as Air Pacific, is the national carrier of Fiji. Established in 1951, the airline has a long and rich history of connecting the island nation to the rest of the world. Over the years, Fiji Airlines has played a crucial role in promoting tourism, trade, and cultural exchange in the South Pacific region.
The airline started its operations with a small fleet of Douglas DC-3 aircraft, serving domestic routes within Fiji. As tourism in the region began to flourish, Fiji Airlines expanded its network to include international destinations. In the 1970s, the airline introduced jet aircraft, such as the Boeing 707 and Boeing 737, to cater to the growing demand for air travel.
In 1981, Air Pacific became the first airline in the South Pacific to operate non-stop flights between Fiji and the United States. This milestone further solidified the airline's position as a key player in the Pacific aviation industry. Throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, the airline continued to modernize its fleet and improve its services, enhancing the overall travel experience for passengers.
