KLM Royal Dutch Airlines Pet Policy

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines welcomes small cats and dogs into the economy cabin on most of their flights, and in business class on flights within Europe. Dogs are allowed in the cabin if the combined weight of the pet and carrier is under 18 lbs (8 kg). It is important to note that pets are not permitted in Premium Comfort Class or Business Class on intercontinental routes.

If you wish to bring your furry friend on board, they must remain underneath the seat in front of you in a suitable carrier for the duration of the flight. Please ensure that the carrier meets the size requirements, with dimensions no larger than 18" x 11" x 9" (46 cm x 28 cm x 24 cm), allowing your pet to comfortably stand up and lay down inside.

For pets and carriers weighing more than 18 lbs (8 kg), they can be transported in the hold as checked baggage. The maximum weight allowed for pets and carriers in the hold is 165 lbs (75 kg). Passengers are allowed to check up to 3 pets in the hold. However, if you have a transfer time of more than 3 hours or your flight is operated with a Boeing 787-9 or 787-10 aircraft, you are not permitted to travel with a pet in the hold.

Guidance, Tips, & info on Airlines and Airports

When traveling with pets in the hold, there is a fee ranging from EUR 75 to EUR 400 per one-way, depending on your travel destination. It is advisable to check directly with KLM for the most accurate and up-to-date information regarding fees.

For pets that exceed the maximum weight for traveling in the hold, those traveling alone, or animals heading to countries where pets must be transported as freight, Air France-KLM Cargo is available. Pets and carriers weighing more than 165 lbs (75 kg) or exceeding 115" (292 cm) in height must travel through Air France-KLM Cargo. The kennel dimensions must be larger than 115" (292 cm), but on some aircraft types, the kennel must be smaller than 97" (247 cm). To inquire about prices, availability, and conditions for your pet's travel plans, you can contact Air France-KLM Cargo directly at 800-556-9000.

It is important to note that snub-nosed breeds are not allowed to travel with KLM. These animals must be transported via KLM Cargo.

Keep in mind that air carriers can change these policies at any time, so you should always check directly with the airline you are traveling on before you book for the most accurate and up-to-date information.
