SAS Scandinavian Airlines Partnerships & Alliances
SAS Scandinavian Airlines, often simply referred to as SAS, is a prominent member of the Star Alliance. Founded in 1946, SAS is the flag carrier of Denmark, Norway, and Sweden, and it has played a crucial role in air connectivity throughout Scandinavia and the broader European region.
SAS joined the Star Alliance on its inception date, May 14, 1997. The alliance is the largest global airline network, which was founded by five airlines: Air Canada, Lufthansa, Scandinavian Airlines, Thai Airways International, and United Airlines. Being part of the Star Alliance provides SAS with a significant global reach, enhancing its ability to serve its customers. The alliance facilitates improved service through seamless transfers, shared frequent flyer benefits, and integrated operations amongst member airlines.
Beyond its membership in the Star Alliance, SAS has also entered into numerous codeshare agreements with other airlines. These partnerships are instrumental in broadening its operational network. Codeshare agreements allow SAS to sell seats on flights operated by partner airlines, effectively expanding its route network without the need for additional aircraft. These partnerships include agreements with fellow Star Alliance members, such as Lufthansa and United Airlines, and with other airlines outside the alliance, such as Emirates and Etihad Airways.
Moreover, SAS also maintains other strategic partnerships outside of the aviation industry. For instance, it has collaborated with different hotel chains, car rental companies, and other service providers, enhancing the travel experience of its customers. Notably, it operates a partnership with Radisson Hotels, enabling members of the airline's EuroBonus program to earn points when staying at any Radisson hotel worldwide. Such partnerships reflect SAS's commitment to provide a comprehensive, end-to-end travel experience for its passengers.
SAS Scandinavian Airlines continues to demonstrate its commitment to its customers through its extensive network of partnerships and alliances. By leveraging its membership in the Star Alliance and its numerous codeshare agreements, it continues to enhance its route network and deliver comprehensive global coverage. Additionally, its strategic partnerships with other service providers ensure an integrated, high-quality travel experience for its passengers.
