SAS Scandinavian Airlines Pet Policy
If you're planning a trip and want to bring your pet along, SAS Scandinavian Airlines offers accommodating options for both small and larger pets. It's important to note that pets are not included in your personal baggage allowance and the number of pets allowed on board is restricted, so to guarantee a spot for your furry friend, it's recommended that you reach out to the SAS Customer Contact Center at (800) 221-2350 as soon as your travel itinerary is confirmed.
For passengers who wish to travel with their pets in the cabin, SAS Scandinavian Airlines allows a maximum of two small pets in a single carrier per passenger. The carrier counts as your carry-on luggage and the combined weight of your pet(s) and the carrier must not exceed 8 kg (18 lbs). The carrier must fit under the seat in front of you and remain there throughout the flight. Prices for this service vary depending on your destination, ranging from $60 for domestic Nordic flights, $80 for flights to Scandinavia, Europe, Tel Aviv, and Turkey, and up to $115 for journeys to the US and Asia.
For pets that exceed the cabin weight limit, they may be transported in the cargo hold. The maximum weight for animals being transported this way is 60 kg (132 lbs). Up to two animals weighing 14 kg (31 lbs) each can share a carrier if they are comfortable with each other, otherwise, they should be transported in separate carriers. Depending on the aircraft type and flight duration, the weight limit per animal may decrease. The transportation fee for this service is $80 for domestic Nordic flights, $105 for flights to Scandinavia, Europe, Tel Aviv, and Turkey, and $140 for flights to the US and Asia.

In terms of carrier dimensions, for pets travelling in the cabin, the carrier must not exceed 40 cm x 25 cm x 23 cm (16" x 10" x 9"). It should be either a small Sherpa bag or a soft-sided pet carrier and must allow your pet to stand, lie down and turn naturally. For pets in the cargo hold, the carrier must allow the same freedom of movement and should be leak-proof, rigid and clean. The carrier needs to be equipped with containers for food and water and should have a solid floor covered with a layer of newspaper or sawdust (not hay or straw).
However, there are some limitations to note. Pets are not permitted on flights operated by Privatair between Copenhagen and Boston. For transport within the U.S. and Canada, SAS Cargo can handle your pet's travel. Service animals, including emotional support animals and rescue dogs, are welcome in the cabin free of charge when on active duty with SAS Scandinavian Airlines.
As policies can change, it is always advisable to check directly with the airline prior to booking for the most current and accurate information. Remember, your pet's comfort and safety are a top priority during travel.
