Singapore Airlines History
Singapore Airlines, with the IATA code SQ, has a rich history that dates back to its establishment in 1947. Originally founded as Malayan Airways Limited, the airline began its operations with a fleet of three Airspeed Consuls, flying from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur, Ipoh, and Penang.
In 1957, Malayan Airways Limited underwent a rebranding and became known as Malaysia-Singapore Airlines (MSA). This joint venture between the governments of Malaysia and Singapore aimed to expand the airline's reach and improve connectivity within the region. MSA introduced its first jet aircraft, the Comet 4, in 1959, marking a significant milestone in the airline's history.
However, the partnership between Malaysia and Singapore did not last, and in 1972, both countries decided to establish separate national airlines. As a result, Singapore Airlines was born on October 1, 1972, with a fleet consisting of Boeing 707s and 747s.
