Volaris Airlines Pet Policy

Volaris Airlines understands that pets are an important part of many people's lives, which is why they have established a pet policy that allows passengers to bring their furry friends on board. Whether you have a small dog or cat that can fit in the cabin or a larger pet that needs to travel as checked baggage, Volaris has options to accommodate your needs.

If you prefer to have your pet by your side during the flight, Volaris allows small dogs and cats to accompany their owners in the cabin. The combined weight of the pet and carrier must not exceed 22 lbs (10 kg). Each passenger is permitted to bring one carrier on board, and only one pet is allowed in each carrier. It's important to note that fees may apply for bringing your pet in the cabin, so it's recommended to contact the Volaris Reservations Department at (855) 865-2747 for more information.

For pets that exceed the weight limit to travel in the cabin, Volaris offers the option to transport them as checked baggage. The maximum combined weight of the pet and carrier should not exceed 99 lbs (44 kg). Again, it's advisable to contact the Volaris Reservations Department at (855) 865-2747 to inquire about fees and additional details regarding pets as checked baggage.

Guidance, Tips, & info on Airlines and Airports

There are specific requirements for carriers used to transport pets in both the cabin and as checked baggage. Carriers for pets in the cabin must not exceed 17” L x 12” W x 7” H (43 cm x 30 cm x 17 cm) and should have a perforated floor and be lockable. It's important that pets are able to stand up, turn around, and lie down comfortably inside the carrier. Both soft and hard-sided carriers are permitted in the cabin. Carriers for pets as checked baggage should have combined dimensions less than 62" (157 cm) and must be scratch and leak-proof, with handles for safe carriage. Additional fees may apply if carriers exceed the specified dimensions.

It's essential to be aware of the restrictions and limitations regarding pet breeds on Volaris flights. There are certain breeds that are not accepted, including American Staffordshire Terrier, Boston Terrier, Boxer, Griffon Buxelois, Bulldog, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Lhasa Apso, English Mastiff, Pekingese, Pit Bull, Canary Mastiff, Pug (all breeds), Shar Pei, Tibetan Spaniel, Cane Corso, Bordeaux Mastiff, English Toy Spaniel, Japanese Chin, and Shih tzu dog breeds. Additionally, Burmese, Persian, Himalayan, and Exotic Shorthair cat breeds are not permitted. Pets under 4 months old, breastfeeding, ill, violent, or pregnant are also not accepted on board. Furthermore, any infected animals, dead or alive, will not be allowed. However, emotional support animals can travel in the cabin at no additional cost, provided that recent documentation (issued within a maximum of one year prior to the flight date) from a mental health professional is provided.

Keep in mind that air carriers can change these policies at any time, so you should always check directly with the airline you are traveling on before you book for the most accurate and up-to-date information.
