Getting Around MAA Airport
MAA Airport consists of three operational passenger terminals. Terminals 1 and 4 handle domestic flights, while Terminal 2 is dedicated to international traffic. Terminal 1, the newer domestic terminal, covers 67,700 square meters and includes three levels: departures on the top level, arrivals on the ground level, and luggage handling in the basement. Terminal 4, which previously handled international flights, now also serves domestic passengers. This terminal spans 59,300 square meters. Both terminals are equipped with in-line baggage handling systems and security screening systems.
Terminal 2, the new integrated terminal, started operations in July 2023 and is designed to accommodate 10 million passengers. It features 100 check-in counters, 11 automated tray retrieval systems, six self-bag drops, and six baggage reclaim belts. The terminal is adorned with elements inspired by Tamil culture, including Dravidian architectural motifs and Kolam patterns on the flooring and ceiling. The terminal also has a passenger flow monitoring system to manage operations efficiently.
To navigate the airport, passengers can follow clear signage throughout the terminals. For those needing assistance, information desks are available in each terminal. Additionally, the airport offers various amenities such as duty-free shops, restaurants, snack bars, and executive lounges, making it convenient to find services and relax during layovers.

Security & Screening

Locations of Security Checkpoint(s)
The airport has security checkpoints located at various points throughout the airport terminals. The domestic terminal has two security checkpoints, one located at the entrance and the other at the departure level. The international terminal has three security checkpoints, one at the entrance and two at the departure level. It is recommended that passengers arrive at the airport at least two hours before their flight to allow enough time for security checks.
Fast Track Lanes and Locations
MAA offers Fast Track services for passengers who want to avoid long queues at security checkpoints. Fast Track services are available for both domestic and international passengers. The domestic terminal has a Fast Track lane located at the entrance security checkpoint, while the international terminal has a Fast Track lane located at the first departure level security checkpoint. Passengers can purchase Fast Track services online or at the airport.
Passport & Immigration Control Locations
Passport and immigration control at Chennai Madras Airport is located at the international terminal. The immigration counters are located at the arrival and departure levels of the terminal. Passengers arriving in India are required to go through immigration control before collecting their baggage. Passengers departing from India are required to go through immigration control before boarding their flight. It is recommended that passengers arrive at the airport at least three hours before their international flight to allow enough time for immigration control and other formalities.
