Getting Around SOF Airport
SOF Airport consists of two main terminals, Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, each catering to different types of flights and airlines. Terminal 1, the older and smaller of the two, primarily serves low-cost and charter carriers. It features a single main level with a central check-in hall, two security screening areas, and seven departure gates for bus boarding. Terminal 2, significantly larger, serves a mix of airlines and includes modern amenities such as air-bridges for direct aircraft boarding, 38 check-in desks, and a spacious layout.
To navigate between the terminals, passengers can use the free shuttle bus service that operates regularly. Within each terminal, clear signage and information desks are available to assist travelers. Terminal 2 also includes a Sofia Metro station, providing convenient access to central Sofia in approximately 20 minutes. Both terminals are equipped with facilities to accommodate disabled passengers, including lifts and escalators for easy movement between different levels.
For a smooth experience, it’s advisable to familiarize yourself with the terminal map upon arrival, follow the directional signs, and allow ample time for security checks and boarding procedures. The main security checkpoint is located at the entrance of the departures area, while additional checkpoints are located near the gates for international flights. Passengers are required to pass through security before entering the boarding area, and all carry-on luggage is scanned and checked for prohibited items.
Fast Track Lanes and Locations
Fast track lanes are available for passengers who wish to expedite the security process at SOF Airport. These lanes are located at the main security checkpoint and are accessible to passengers who have purchased fast track services or have elite status with their airline. Fast track services can be purchased online or at the airport, and allow passengers to bypass the regular security lines and proceed directly to the fast track lane.
Passport & Immigration Control Locations
Passport and immigration control is located in the arrivals area of the airport. All passengers arriving from international destinations are required to pass through passport control before exiting the airport. The immigration area is staffed by border control officers who check passports and visas to ensure that passengers are authorized to enter the country.
