Terminal E Info & Layout

Terminal E, also known as the John A. Volpe International Terminal, is the primary international terminal at Boston Logan Airport. It handles the majority of international arrivals and departures, excluding flights from origins with U.S. Customs and Border Protection preclearance. The terminal features 18 gates, including two for hard stand boarding and two flexible-use gates that can accommodate either two narrow-body aircraft or a single wide-body aircraft. All gates in Terminal E are common-use, meaning they are shared among various international carriers based on operational needs.

Major international airlines operating from Terminal E include Air France, British Airways, Delta, Emirates, and Lufthansa. The terminal offers several airline lounges, such as the Air France Lounge, British Airways Lounge, Delta Sky Club, Lufthansa's First and Business Lounges, and the Emirates Lounge.

Travelers can access Terminal E via pre-security shuttle buses and the SL1 branch of the MBTA Silver Line BRT. Pre-security moving walkways connect Terminal E with Terminals A and B, and a post-security connection is available between Terminals B, C, and E. Additionally, moving walkways link the terminals to a central parking garage, providing consolidated service between all four terminals.

Terminal E underwent a significant expansion completed in August 2023, which included the addition of new international gates, enhanced passenger services, a new TSA checkpoint, and expanded ticketing, customs, and baggage claim areas. The expansion introduced approximately 320,000 square feet of new space, featuring all-new shops, restaurants, and other amenities for travelers.

Unique features of Terminal E include its capability to process over 2,000 passengers per hour through its Federal Inspection Station and its prismatic painted roof, adding a distinctive architectural element to the terminal.
