This page is dedicated to offering insights into Terminal 1 at Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport, providing details on its layout, amenities, and access options for travelers navigating the international terminal.
Terminal 1 Info & Layout
Terminal 1 at Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport, also known as the International Terminal, is dedicated to handling all international flights. Situated in the northwestern sector of the airport, Terminal 1 has been serving passengers since its opening on May 3, 1970. Over the years, it has undergone several expansions, including major redevelopments in 1992, 2000, and 2010, which have significantly increased its capacity and improved facilities.
The terminal features 25 gates served by aerobridges, divided between two piers: Pier B and Pier C. Pier B, with gates numbered 8–10, 24–25, and 30–37, services Qantas, all Oneworld members, and most SkyTeam members, except Delta Air Lines. Pier C, with gates numbered 50–51, 53–61, and 63, caters to Virgin Australia, its partners including Delta, and all Star Alliance members. Additionally, remote bays are available for use during peak times and for aircraft parking.
Terminal 1 is well-equipped with amenities to enhance the traveler experience. It houses eight airline lounges, including two for Qantas, and one each for The House, Air New Zealand, Singapore Airlines, Emirates, American Express, and SkyTeam. The terminal is organized across three levels: arrivals, departures, and airline offices. The departure level features 200 check-in desks spread across 20 rows.
Passengers can access Terminal 1 via shuttle services from the domestic terminals (Terminals 2 & 3), as it is separated by runway 16R/34L. The terminal is connected to the rest of the airport by pedestrian walkways and offers easy access to transportation links.
Unique features of Terminal 1 include its extensive shopping complex, centralized outbound customs operations, and advanced Australian Border Force outbound immigration SmartGates. These enhancements make the terminal a standout choice for international travelers seeking comfort and convenience.
