Terminal A Info & Layout
Terminal A at Abu Dhabi International Airport is a state-of-the-art facility that serves as the hub for all flights at the airport, handling both domestic and international flights. This terminal is the new centerpiece of the airport, officially opened on October 31, 2023, and has replaced the former terminals. It is primarily used by Etihad Airways, the main carrier based at the airport, along with other airlines such as Air Arabia Abu Dhabi and Wizz Air Abu Dhabi.
Terminal A is designed to accommodate a large volume of passengers, with a capacity of over 45 million annually, and the potential to expand to 60 million. The terminal boasts 79 gates that can handle Airbus A380-type aircraft and is equipped to serve 11,000 passengers at peak times. The terminal's vast floor area covers more than 780,000 square meters, making it one of the largest airport terminal buildings globally.
Passengers at Terminal A can enjoy a wide range of amenities, including 35,000 square meters of retail and commercial space with 163 outlets. The terminal features advanced biometric technology to expedite the screening and boarding processes, enhancing the travel experience. In July 2024, the airport launched the "Smart Travel" project, utilizing biometric data for identity validation, which is set to be fully implemented by 2025.
Access to Terminal A is facilitated through modern transportation systems, including pedestrian walkways and efficient connections to other areas of the airport. The terminal's design and infrastructure were developed by the renowned architecture firm Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates, ensuring a blend of functionality and aesthetic appeal.
Terminal A's unique features, such as its cutting-edge technology and expansive facilities, make it a noteworthy destination for air travelers. Its role in the film "Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One" even before its official opening adds to its iconic status.
