Connecting Between Terminals

Chicago O'Hare has four terminals: Terminal 1, Terminal 2, Terminal 3, and Terminal 5. Each terminal is connected by a free shuttle bus service called the ATS (Airport Transit System), which runs 24/7. The ATS is a fast and convenient way to travel between terminals, with a travel time of approximately 5-10 minutes.

If you prefer to walk, there are pedestrian walkways that connect Terminal 1, Terminal 2, and Terminal 3. The walkway between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 is the shortest, taking around 10-15 minutes. The walkway between Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 takes around 15-20 minutes. If you need to travel between Terminal 5 and the other terminals, you can take the ATS shuttle bus.

Automated Teller Machines (ATMs)

For those in need of cash withdrawals, Bank of America and Wells Fargo provide ATMs conveniently located throughout the airport. Both banks offer 24/7 services at their ATMs.

Bank of America has ATMs in Terminal 2, Terminal 3, and Terminal 4, all operating round the clock. Wells Fargo, on the other hand, has ATMs in Terminal 3 and Terminal 5, also available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Banks & Credit Unions

Seaway National Bank provides full-service banking branches at ORD. Their branch in Terminal 2's Main Hall is open from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm on weekdays, while the one in Terminal 5's lower level operates daily from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm. These branches offer a range of services including money orders, credit card advances, copies, currency exchange, cashier checks, commercial deposits, payroll, loans, and checking accounts.

Currency Exchange Services

For travelers requiring foreign currency, Seaway National Bank provides currency exchange branches at various locations within the airport. These branches generally open during business hours, but be sure to check as each location’s hours are different.

In Terminal 1, the currency exchange branches are located at gates B10 and C18. Terminal 2's Main Hall and Terminal 3's gate K0o also house these branches. Terminal 5 has currency exchange services at the lower and upper levels.

Baggage Help & Services

Baggage Carts

Luggage carts are available throughout the domestic terminals at a cost. Carts are free to passengers arriving at International Terminal Five. Due to safety concerns, baggage carts are not allowed on Airport Transit System (ATS) cars.

Baggage Claim Areas

Within each of Chicago ORD Airport’s four terminals, is its own baggage claim area. Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 have domestic and international baggage claim areas, while Terminal 2 and Terminal 5 have only international baggage claim areas. Passengers can easily locate their baggage claim area by checking the flight information display screens or by asking airport staff for assistance.

Luggage Storage Locations

ORD offers luggage storage services for passengers who need to store their bags before or after their flight. The kept luggage locations, also known as left luggage, are located in each terminal. The cost to store luggage varies depending on the size of the bag and the length of time it will be stored. Passengers can inquire about luggage storage at the information desk in each terminal.

Mail Facilities

There is a UPS Store located at the Hilton O’Hare, directly connected to the airport.

Pet Services and Restrictions

Animals are not allowed inside the passenger terminals unless they are in a kennel. Exception: Working dogs on a leash.

Animal relief areas are located curbside, on the lower levels of Terminals 1 and 5. They are gated areas designated for service animal relief and are accessible at all times. All animals must be accompanied and leashed by the owner. An indoor pet relief room is located post-security of Terminal 3, at the Rotunda.

Religious/Faith Facilities

An interfaith chapel is available for travelers who wish to pray and/or meditate while at the airport. Materials for worship such as bibles, Korans, rosaries, and carpets are provided. Located on the mezzanine level of Terminal 2 (directly overhead of the ticket counters for JetBlue and Alaska - before TSA), the chapel is open 24 hours a day. Contact: (773) 686-2636

The Medical Center (tel. 773-894-5100) is in Terminal 2, post-security, at Main Hall, east side.

ADA-related Services

If you need a wheelchair, contact your airline 48 hours prior to your scheduled departure;

all terminals are accessible via elevators (with Braille & raised numerals) and so is the ATS train connecting terminals.

There are 250 accessible parking spaces inside the available parking facilities tel. 773-686-7530). For public transportation / CTA Rapid Transit call 312-836-7000 or 4949 (TTY).

Hook-ups for operator-assisted Teletypewriters (TTY) are available 24/7 on the lower level of Terminals 1, 2, & 3, and on the upper level of Terminal 5.

The CTA Blue Line train to downtown has an elevator to/from the platform.

Working dogs are allowed inside the terminals on a leash, as well as at the fenced animal relief areas at curbside, lower levels of Terminals 1 & 5.

Virtual Concierge Kiosks

Located in all of Chicago ORD’s baggage claim areas provide multilingual touch-screens with hotel, transportation and airport information in eight languages, including flight status and weather updates, and information on Chicago events and attractions. You can touch the screens to place a free call for hotel or rental car reservation, or contact an airport Customer Service Representative.

Wifi-Internet and Charging Stations

ORD airport offers free WiFi to all passengers. The network ID for the free WiFi is Free_ORD_Wi-Fi. To connect to the airport's WiFi on your mobile phone, follow these steps:

Go to your phone's settings and select "WiFi."

Select the network ID Free_ORD_Wi-Fi.

Enter your email address and accept the terms and conditions.

You should now be connected to the airport's WiFi. If you are unable to connect to the airport's WiFi, there may be charging stations available throughout the airport where you can charge your phone and access the internet.

It's important to note that airline lounges may have their own WiFi connections, so be sure to check with your airline if you have access to a lounge.

U.S.O.

The U.S.O. (United Service Organizations) offers a variety of services to active military personnel and their dependents, including free refreshments, information, and referrals. It is located in T-2 Mezzanine Level. Contact: (tel. 773-686-7396).

International Travelers

International arrivals at ORD Airport

With the exception of those who went through U.S. Customs clearance at participating airports - all passengers need to go through passport control, pick up their bags and go with them through Customs clearance . If they continue their journey they need to re-check-in their bags where indicated, before proceeding to their connecting flight's gate.

Baggage Transfers

Prior to departure make sure that your original airline will transfer bags to your connecting flight - if not, you need, after customs clearance, take them to your connecting airline's check-in counter (which may be in another terminal) and check them in before proceeding through security check and on to your departure gate.

Your bags will be automatically transferred if both arriving & departing airlines (a) belong to the same Airline Alliance, (b) code-share with another airline; or (c) if both flights were bought on one ticket.

NOTE: Prior to departure make sure that your original airline will transfer bags to your connecting flight - if not, you need, after customs clearance, take them to your connecting terminal and check them in at your connecting airline counter before proceeding to your gate.

Automated Passport Control (APC) & Mobile Passport Control (MPC)

APC kiosks (Automated Passport Control) collect passengers' facial & fingerprint biometrics against their passports - approved by US Customs and Border Protection (CBP). The kiosks will process any passenger from the USA, Canada, or any of the 38 visa waiver countries without any pre-enrollment. The process takes about 90 seconds.

Mobile passport control (MPC): Eligible passengers may submit passport information & customs declaration form to CBP (Customs) by smartphone or tablet app prior to arrival. Android & iPhone users may download the MPC app from either the Google Play Store or from the Apple App Store.

Parking Facilities & Options

Chicago ORD International Airport offers a variety of parking options for travelers. There are several parking garages and lots available for short-term and long-term parking, conveniently located near all terminals. Terminal parking garages are ideal for those who need to park for a few hours or a day, while economy parking lots are perfect for longer stays.

If you're picking up someone from the airport, there are cell phone waiting areas available where you can wait for your party to arrive before heading to the terminal. These areas are free of charge and located near each terminal.

Handicapped parking is available in all parking garages and lots. Designated spaces are located near elevators and shuttle bus stops for easy access to the terminals.

For those looking for a more economical parking option, off-airport parking is available. These lots are located near the airport and offer shuttle service to and from the terminals. They are a great option for those who need to park for an extended period of time.

Picking Up and Dropping Off Passengers

For those who prefer to take a taxi, you can find taxi stands outside of each terminal. The drop-off areas are located on the upper level of each terminal. Fares for taxis are based on a metered system, with a flat rate for trips to downtown Chicago.

Transportation Center at O'Hare Airport

The Bus & Shuttle Center is located in the Main Parking garage at level 1 (ground level) - near elevator center 3, accessible via pedestrian tunnels from T1, T2 & T3 (follow signs after you claim your bags), in the central pickup facility serving regional & hotel courtesy buses. Some regional buses also make pickups at T5, while Pace buses pick up at Kiss 'n Fly.

Go Airport Express offers door-to-door service to most Chicago city and suburban areas. Service starts early mornings, departing every 10-15 minutes from each terminal.
