KUL Low Cost Carrier Terminal Map & Guide
This page is dedicated to providing information about the Low Cost Carrier Terminal at Kuala Lumpur International Airport. You will find details on the terminal's layout, amenities, and transport connections.
Low Cost Carrier Terminal Info & Layout
The Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) at Kuala Lumpur International Airport was specifically designed to cater to the increasing demand for low-cost air travel in the region. Originally, this terminal was used before being replaced by the current KLIA Terminal 2. The LCCT primarily handled domestic and international flights for low-cost carriers, with AirAsia being one of the major airlines operating from this terminal.
The LCCT featured a straightforward layout with a focus on efficiency and cost-effectiveness. It had a number of gates dedicated to handling the high volume of passengers typical for low-cost flights. Although the exact number of gates is not specified, the terminal was designed to accommodate the operational needs of budget airlines.
Amenities at the LCCT were more basic compared to the main terminals, focusing on essential services such as food and beverage outlets, retail shops, and basic passenger services. The terminal aimed to provide a quick turnaround for flights and passengers, which is a hallmark of low-cost carrier operations.
Access to the LCCT was primarily via road, with shuttle buses and taxis being the main modes of transport connecting it to other parts of the airport and Kuala Lumpur city. Unlike the newer KLIA Terminal 2, the LCCT did not have advanced automated transport systems or skybridges for inter-terminal connectivity.
While the LCCT has since been replaced by the more modern KLIA Terminal 2, it played a significant role in the development of low-cost air travel in Malaysia and set the stage for the current facilities that continue to support budget airlines in the region.
