Getting Around BCN Airport
Barcelona–El Prat Airport consists of two main terminals: Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Terminal 1, inaugurated in 2009, is the larger of the two and is divided into five modules (A, B, C, D, and E). Each module serves different types of flights: Module A handles flights to Madrid, Module B for Schengen flights, Module C for Air Nostrum flights, Module D for non-Schengen European flights, and Module E for non-Schengen non-European flights. Terminal 2 is split into three sections (2A, 2B, and 2C), with 2B being the oldest. Terminal 2 mainly caters to low-cost airlines, with each section handling different airlines and flight types.
To navigate within Terminal 1, look for clear signage indicating the module and gate areas. The terminal features 258 check-in counters and 60 jetways, making it easy to find your way to your departure gate. For baggage claim, there are 15 carousels, ensuring efficient luggage retrieval. If you need to move between terminals, shuttle services are available to transport passengers seamlessly. Terminal 2 is connected by walkways and shuttles, making it convenient to transfer between sections 2A, 2B, and 2C.
For a smooth experience, consider the following tips:
- Check the module and gate information on your boarding pass to know where to go.
- Utilize the airport's information desks if you need assistance or directions.
- Allow extra time for security checks, especially during peak travel times.

Frequent Flier Terminal Tips
To help you navigate the airport terminals with ease, we’ve gathered the best advice and tips from BCN-based frequent travelers, flight attendants, pilots, and airport staff. Their first-hand insights will guide you through the terminals for a smoother journey. Here’s what they have to say:
Navigating the Airport
"If you’re flying out of Terminal 1, make sure to check which module your gate is in. The terminal is divided into five modules, and knowing this in advance can save you a lot of walking. Use the shuttle service if you need to move between terminals quickly." — Javier M., El Prat de Llobregat, December 2023
"For those connecting flights in Terminal 2, remember that 2A, 2B, and 2C are connected by walkways. It’s faster to walk between them than to wait for the shuttle during peak hours." — Laura G., Castelldefels, January 2024
Amenities & Services
"Terminal 1 has some great lounges, but the Sala VIP Miro Lounge is my favorite. It offers a quiet place to relax with good snacks and free Wi-Fi. If you have a long layover, it’s worth the entry fee." — Carlos R., Sant Boi de Llobregat, March 2024
"If you need to grab a quick meal, Terminal 2B has some excellent options. I always stop by Illy Cafe for their delicious Italian food before my flight." — Maria P., Viladecans, May 2024
Security
"Arrive early for security checks, especially in Terminal 1. The lines can get long, but the Fast Track lanes are a lifesaver if you’re eligible. They’re located on the second floor and can save you a lot of time." — Antonio L., Gavà, June 2024
"Terminal 2B has two security checkpoints, one on the first floor and another on the second. If the line is long at one, try the other. It’s usually less crowded." — Isabel T., Cornellà de Llobregat, August 2024
Baggage
"Baggage claim in Terminal 1 is pretty efficient, but make sure to double-check the baggage tag to avoid any mix-ups. The carousels are clearly marked and easy to find." — Luis F., L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, April 2024
"If you’re flying with a low-cost airline and arriving at Terminal 2, the baggage claim areas are well-organized. Just follow the signs, and you’ll get your luggage in no time." — Ana S., Badalona, September 2024
