Terminal 1 at Barcelona Airport is a modern facility designed by Ricardo Bofill Taller de Arquitectura, inaugurated on June 16, 2009. This terminal plays a crucial role in handling both Schengen and non-Schengen flights, making it a vital hub for international travel. It is equipped to accommodate large aircraft such as the Airbus A380-800 and Boeing 747-8I, enhancing its capability to manage a high volume of passengers and flights.
Terminal 1 features 45 gates, which can be expanded to 60, and is divided into five modules: Module A for flights to Madrid, Module B for Schengen flights, Module C for Air Nostrum flights, Module D for non-Schengen European flights, and Module E for non-Schengen non-European flights. The terminal boasts 258 check-in counters, 60 jetways, and 15 baggage carousels, ensuring efficient passenger processing and baggage handling.
Travelers can enjoy a variety of amenities, including two lounges designed for comfort and relaxation. For those driving to the airport, Terminal 1 offers 13,000 parking spaces, in addition to the 12,000 spaces available at Terminal 2.
