Getting Around ATL Airport

ATL Airport features two main terminals: the Domestic Terminal on the west side and the Maynard H. Jackson Jr. International Terminal on the east side. These terminals are linked by the Transportation Mall, a pedestrian tunnel equipped with moving walkways, and The Plane Train, an automated people mover that operates around the clock. This setup ensures efficient movement between the terminals and concourses.

The airport is organized into seven concourses labeled T, A, B, C, D, E, and F, with a total of 192 gates. Here's a quick overview of the concourses:

  • Concourse T: 21 gates
  • Concourse A: 29 gates
  • Concourse B: 32 gates
  • Concourse C: 34 gates
  • Concourse D: 40 gates
  • Concourse E: 28 gates
  • Concourse F: 12 gates
International flights are primarily handled in Concourses E and F, with Concourse F being the only one capable of accommodating the Airbus A380.

For travelers moving between concourses, The Plane Train offers a fast and convenient option, stopping at each concourse and both terminals. Alternatively, the Transportation Mall provides a pedestrian-friendly route with moving walkways for those who prefer to walk. Signage throughout the airport is clear and helpful, guiding passengers to their gates, amenities, and other essential services.

Frequent Flier Terminal Tips

To help you navigate the airport terminals with ease, we’ve gathered the best advice and tips from ATL-based frequent travelers, flight attendants, pilots, and airport staff. Their first-hand insights will guide you through the terminals for a smoother journey. Here’s what they have to say:

Navigating the Airport

"If you’re connecting between concourses, The Plane Train is your best friend. It’s fast and stops at every concourse. But if you have a bit of time and want to stretch your legs, the Transportation Mall's moving walkways are a great alternative." — Michael P., Decatur, GA, December 2023

"For international arrivals, remember that Concourse F is the only one that can handle the Airbus A380. It’s also where you’ll find the most comprehensive customs and immigration facilities." — Lisa S., College Park, GA, January 2024

Amenities & Services

"Don't miss the art installations scattered throughout the airport. They add a bit of local flavor and are a nice distraction during layovers. Concourse T has some particularly interesting pieces." — Javier R., East Point, GA, February 2024

"If you need a quiet place to relax, the Delta Sky Club lounges are fantastic. They have locations in Concourses A, B, C, D, E, and T, offering great amenities like showers and complimentary snacks." — Emily H., Sandy Springs, GA, March 2024

Security

"TSA PreCheck and CLEAR lanes are available at all major security checkpoints. If you’re in a rush, these can save you a significant amount of time, especially during peak hours." — Ahmed K., Marietta, GA, April 2024

"The North and South security checkpoints in the domestic terminal tend to be less crowded than the Main checkpoint. Head there if you want to get through security a bit faster." — Maria T., Smyrna, GA, May 2024

Baggage

"Make sure to check the flight information display screens for your baggage carousel number as soon as you land. The signs are clear, but the airport is large, and it’s easy to get turned around." — Brian W., Peachtree City, GA, June 2024

"Baggage carts are available at all baggage claim areas, but they can run out during busy times. If you see one, grab it early to avoid the hassle of lugging your bags around." — Jessica L., Alpharetta, GA, July 2024
