Getting Around SBP Airport

The airport features a modern terminal that opened in 2017, replacing the older, smaller facility. This terminal is equipped with contemporary amenities, including check-in counters, security screening, and a central courtyard with a pet relief area. For dining, there is a post-security food stand available for passengers. The terminal also showcases unique artwork, such as tail sections and an engine nacelle from a Boeing 747, adding an artistic touch to the travel experience.

Inside the terminal, passengers will find multiple gates with comfortable waiting areas and two all-glass jet bridges, in addition to ground-level gates. These facilities ensure smooth boarding and disembarking processes. For those interested in aviation history or looking for a meal with a view, the Spirit of San Luis Restaurant, located in the original terminal from the 1950s, offers outdoor seating where patrons can watch planes take off and land.

For those needing flight training, the 1980s built terminal, now home to a flight school, provides additional aviation services. Navigating the terminal is straightforward, with clear signage guiding passengers to check-in, security, gates, and amenities, making it easy to get around the airport efficiently.

Locations of Security Checkpoint(s)

The San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport has one security checkpoint located on the second floor of the terminal building. Passengers are required to go through security screening before entering the gate area. The security checkpoint is open daily from 4:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and passengers are advised to arrive at least 90 minutes before their scheduled departure time to allow enough time for the security screening process.

Fast Track Lanes and Locations

The San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport does not currently offer any fast track lanes for passengers. However, passengers with TSA PreCheck can use the dedicated TSA PreCheck lane at the security checkpoint, which allows them to go through security screening more quickly and with less hassle. TSA PreCheck is available to eligible passengers who have enrolled in the program and paid the fee.

Passport & Immigration Control Locations

The San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport does not have any international flights, so there are no passport or immigration control locations at the airport. All flights departing from the airport are domestic flights within the United States, so passengers are not required to show a passport or go through immigration control. However, passengers are still required to show a valid form of government-issued photo identification, such as a driver's license or passport, at the security checkpoint.

TSA and TSA Pre Checkpoints

San Luis Obispo Airport has both TSA and TSA Pre Checkpoints. TSA Pre Check is a program that allows expedited screening for eligible passengers. It is available for U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, and lawful permanent residents. TSA Pre Check passengers can leave on their shoes, light jackets, and belts, and keep their laptops and liquids in their carry-on bags. The TSA Pre Checkpoint at SBP Airport is located at the main security checkpoint.

Global Entry is a program that allows expedited clearance for pre-approved, low-risk travelers upon arrival in the United States. To enroll in Global Entry, travelers must apply online and complete an in-person interview at an enrollment center.
