Terminal 1 Info & Layout

Terminal 1 at Taipei Chiang Kai-Shek International Airport, now known as Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, serves as the original passenger terminal and primarily handles international flights. Designed by Tung-Yen Lin, the terminal opened in 1979 and has undergone significant renovations to modernize its facilities. Currently, Terminal 1 features 18 gates, organized into two concourses: Concourse A (North Concourse) and Concourse B (South Concourse). China Airlines predominantly operates from Concourse A, while Cathay Pacific utilizes Concourse B for most of its flights.

The terminal offers a range of amenities and services, including expanded check-in counters, increased shopping areas, and enhanced car-parking facilities, following a comprehensive renovation completed in 2012. This renovation, led by Japanese architect Norihiko Dan, received the 2014 Taiwan Architecture Award, highlighting the terminal's architectural significance.

Passengers can access Terminal 1 via the Taoyuan Airport MRT, which connects the terminals underground and provides transportation to Taipei City. Additionally, two short people mover lines facilitate connections between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, linking Concourse A to D and Concourse B to C.

Terminal 1's unique features include its iconic design, influenced by the architectural style of Washington Dulles International Airport, and its transformation over the years to accommodate modern air travel needs while maintaining a capacity of 15 million passengers annually.
