Getting Around AUS Airport
The main terminal at AUS, known as the Barbara Jordan Terminal, features 34 gates, with six dedicated to international flights. This terminal is well-equipped with numerous dining options, most of which are located within the secured gate areas. For entertainment, travelers can enjoy live music performances on the terminal's dedicated stage, reflecting Austin's reputation as "The Live Music Capital of the World."
In addition to the Barbara Jordan Terminal, there is a secondary facility called the South Terminal, which serves ultra low-cost carriers like Allegiant Air and Frontier Airlines. This terminal has three gates and is accessed via a separate entrance on the south side of the airport. Note that the South Terminal is not connected to the main terminal; a shuttle bus service operates between the two, with a travel time of approximately 15-20 minutes. Passengers at the South Terminal board their flights via stairs under a covered walkway, as there are no jet bridges available.
For efficient navigation, passengers should familiarize themselves with the terminal maps available throughout the airport. Signage is clear and plentiful, guiding travelers to gates, dining areas, and other amenities. If moving between terminals, allow extra time for the shuttle service to ensure a smooth transition between flights or terminals.

Frequent Flier Terminal Tips
To help you navigate the airport terminals with ease, we’ve gathered the best advice and tips from AUS-based frequent travelers, flight attendants, pilots, and airport staff. Their first-hand insights will guide you through the terminals for a smoother journey. Here’s what they have to say:
Navigating the Airport
"If you're flying out of the South Terminal, make sure to arrive early. The shuttle bus from the Barbara Jordan Terminal takes about 15-20 minutes, and it runs every 15 minutes. This terminal is smaller and less crowded, but it doesn't have as many amenities." — Carlos M., Round Rock, TX, December 2023
"The Barbara Jordan Terminal has 34 gates, and it can be quite a walk from one end to the other. Use the interactive terminal maps available on the airport's website to plan your route ahead of time, especially if you have a tight connection." — Emily R., Pflugerville, TX, January 2024
Amenities & Services
"Don't miss the live music performances at the Barbara Jordan Terminal. They have local artists playing regularly, and it's a great way to get a taste of Austin's music scene right at the airport." — David L., Cedar Park, TX, February 2024
"If you need to charge your devices, head to the seating areas near the gates. There are plenty of charging stations available, and the Wi-Fi is free and reliable throughout the terminal." — Sarah K., Georgetown, TX, March 2024
Security
"For a faster security experience, enroll in TSA PreCheck or CLEAR. The TSA PreCheck lanes are usually shorter, and you don't have to remove your shoes or laptop. CLEAR lanes are available at Checkpoints 1 and 2, and they can save you a lot of time." — James T., Buda, TX, April 2024
"Security lines can get long during peak travel times. If you're flying in the morning, aim to arrive at least 2 hours before your flight. The security checkpoints open at 3:30 AM, so getting there early can help you avoid the rush." — Lisa P., Kyle, TX, May 2024
Baggage
"When waiting for your luggage at the Barbara Jordan Terminal, check the flight information displays to find out which carousel your bags will be on. There are four carousels, and they are all located on the lower level." — Michael S., San Marcos, TX, June 2024
"If you have oversized or special baggage, look for the designated area near the baggage claim carousels. The staff there are very helpful and will assist you with any questions or issues you might have." — Jessica H., Dripping Springs, TX, July 2024
