Terminal 1 Info & Layout
Terminal 1 at New York Kennedy Airport (JFK) is a key facility primarily handling international flights. Opened in 1998, it was developed by the Terminal One Group, a consortium of four major airlines: Air France, Japan Airlines, Korean Air, and Lufthansa. This terminal is notable for its capacity to accommodate large aircraft, including the Airbus A380, which is operated by Korean Air and Lufthansa on specific routes.
Terminal 1 features 11 gates and serves a diverse range of airlines across various alliances. SkyTeam carriers such as Air France and Korean Air, Star Alliance members like Lufthansa and Air China, and Oneworld's Royal Air Maroc are among the prominent airlines operating from this terminal. Additionally, airlines such as Air Serbia, Philippine Airlines, and Volaris also utilize Terminal 1.
Travelers at Terminal 1 can enjoy a variety of amenities and services designed to enhance their airport experience. These include dining options, retail stores, and lounges catering to different airline alliances. The terminal's design was crafted by William Nicholas Bodouva + Associates, ensuring a modern and efficient layout for passengers.
Access to Terminal 1 is facilitated by the AirTrain JFK, an automated people mover system that connects all terminals at JFK Airport. This allows for easy transfers between terminals, although passengers must exit and re-clear security when moving between terminals. The terminal is also conveniently accessible via airport access roads for those arriving by car or taxi.
One of the unique features of Terminal 1 is its historical significance, as it is situated on the site of the former Eastern Air Lines terminal. Its modern design and capability to handle the world's largest commercial aircraft make it a noteworthy terminal for international travelers passing through JFK.
