Getting Around KOA Airport

The airport features a unique layout with a set of single-story, open-air tropical-style buildings. The complex is divided into three terminals: Terminal 1, Terminal 2, and Terminal 3. Terminal 1 includes gates 1 through 5, Terminal 2 houses gates 6 through 10, and Terminal 3 is dedicated to smaller commuter flights. This design allows for easy navigation between terminals, with clear signage guiding passengers to their respective gates.

One notable aspect of this airport is that passengers board aircraft using mobile stairs or ramps, as opposed to jet bridges. This means that travelers should be prepared for a short walk on the tarmac when boarding or disembarking. Additionally, the open-air design offers a pleasant experience, but it is advisable to stay hydrated and use sun protection when moving between terminals.

For those needing assistance, there are airport staff and information desks available throughout the terminals. These can provide directions and support to ensure a smooth transit experience. Additionally, the airport features amenities such as restrooms, dining options, and retail stores conveniently located within each terminal, making it easy for passengers to find what they need without extensive walking.

Passport & Immigration Control Locations

Passport and immigration control is located in the international arrivals area of the terminal building. The area is clearly marked and can be easily located upon arrival. Passengers arriving from international destinations will need to present their passport and any necessary visas to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers for inspection.

TSA and TSA Pre Checkpoints

At KOA, the TSA and TSA Pre Checkpoints are located on the ground level of the terminal. Passengers are required to go through security screening before entering the gate area. TSA Pre Check is available for eligible passengers who have enrolled in the program and provides expedited screening through a separate lane.
