Terminal 1 Info & Layout
Terminal 1 at Melbourne Airport is dedicated to handling domestic flights, primarily serving the Qantas Group airlines, including Qantas and QantasLink. Located at the northern end of the building, this terminal is equipped with 16 parking bays served by aerobridges—12 single and 4 double—as well as 5 additional non-aerobridge gates specifically used by QantasLink.
Travelers can access Terminal 1 via an extended access roadway, and it is conveniently connected to Terminal 2, allowing easy transitions for passengers needing to switch between domestic and international flights. The terminal is noteworthy for its comprehensive range of amenities, including a variety of shops and food outlets situated near the entrance into Terminal 2. Additionally, Qantas offers several lounges within the terminal, including the Qantas Club, Business Class lounge, and a chairman's lounge, providing a comfortable and exclusive experience for eligible passengers.
Originally opened in 1970 for Trans Australia Airlines and later acquired by Qantas in 1992, Terminal 1 underwent significant improvements between 1997 and 1999. These enhancements included the construction of a second pier, stands for 9 additional aircraft, and expanded facilities, all completed at a cost of $50 million.
