Terminal 1 Info & Layout
Terminal 1 at Manchester Airport is a vital hub for both scheduled and charter operations, serving European and worldwide destinations. It plays a significant role in handling international flights and is notably a base for easyJet. The terminal spans an impressive 110,000 square meters (1,200,000 square feet) and features two piers, offering a total of 29 stands, with 15 equipped with air bridges. Notably, Gate 12 has been specially adapted to accommodate the Airbus A380, operated by Emirates on their thrice-daily route from Dubai to Manchester.
Terminal 1 offers a variety of amenities to enhance the travel experience, including a £14 million 14-lane security area, express retail outlets, and a dedicated lounge and gating area for Airbus A380 flights. Although Terminal 1's capacity has grown to accommodate around 11 million passengers annually, it is slated to be mothballed in 2025 once the new Terminal 2 is completed.
Passengers can access Terminal 1 via the skylink, which connects it to Terminal 2 and the airport's railway station complex, known as The Station. The skylink also provides a covered walkway connection to Terminal 3 and the Radisson BLU Hotel, although the travelators have been out of order since 2016. This extensive connectivity makes it convenient for passengers to navigate between terminals and access various services within the airport.
Terminal 1 stands out for its historical significance, having been opened in 1962 by Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. Despite its planned closure in 2025, it remains a key terminal at Manchester Airport, offering a range of services and connections that cater to the diverse needs of international travelers.
