Getting Around MUC Airport
Munich Airport features two main passenger terminals, Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, each designed to cater to different airline alliances and passenger needs. Terminal 1 is divided into five modules (A, B, C, D, and E), with each module functioning as a self-contained sub-terminal. Modules A and D handle flights within the Schengen area, while B and C cater to non-Schengen destinations. Module E is dedicated to arrivals. Terminal 1 also includes Hall F for flights with increased security requirements, such as those to Israel. The central area Z in Terminal 1 houses check-in counters, shopping, dining options, and the airport's suburban railway station.
Terminal 2, on the other hand, is used exclusively by Lufthansa and Star Alliance members. Unlike Terminal 1, it is not divided into modules but is organized around a central plaza. Terminal 2 consists of multiple levels: levels 04 and 05 for departures, with level 05 designated for non-Schengen flights, and level 03 for bus gates primarily used for Schengen flights. The terminal also includes a satellite building that handles additional flights and can accommodate large aircraft like the Airbus A380.
To navigate between the terminals and different sections within them, passengers can utilize the clear signage and information desks available throughout the airport. Additionally, shuttle buses and moving walkways facilitate easy movement between distant gates and terminals. For those with limited mobility, the airport provides assistance services that can be requested in advance.
