Terminal 2 at San Francisco Airport (SFO), also known as the former "Central Terminal," primarily handles domestic flights and is a hub for several major airlines, including Delta Air Lines, Air Canada, and Breeze Airways. This terminal is composed of two boarding areas: Boarding Area C, with 11 gates (C1-C11), and Boarding Area D, with 14 gates (D1, D3-D12, and D14-D16).
Originally opened in 1954, Terminal 2 underwent a significant renovation and reopened in 2011, designed by Gensler. It was the first U.S. airport terminal to achieve LEED Gold status, emphasizing sustainability and the use of green materials. The terminal features a variety of amenities, including permanent art installations by renowned artists, spacious transition zones, and a focus on sustainable dining options featuring local vendors.
Passengers can access Terminal 2 via pedestrian walkways or automated transport systems that connect it to other terminals. An airside connector links Terminal 2 to Terminal 3, allowing passengers to move between terminals without exiting the secure area. This connectivity enhances the convenience for travelers with connecting flights.
One of the unique features of Terminal 2 is the SkyTerrace, an outdoor observation deck opened in 2020, providing travelers with a place to relax and enjoy views of the airfield. The terminal's commitment to sustainability and passenger comfort makes it a noteworthy part of the San Francisco Airport experience.
