Terminal 1 at Tokyo Haneda Airport, affectionately known as the "Big Bird," plays a crucial role in handling domestic flights within Japan. It is primarily served by major airlines such as Japan Airlines, Skymark Airlines, and StarFlyer. The terminal, which opened in 1993, replaced the older 1970 terminal complex and is managed by Japan Airport Terminal Co., Ltd.
Terminal 1 features a total of 40 gates, with gates 1 through 24 equipped with jet bridges and gates 31–40 and 84–90 designated for ground boarding by bus. This linear terminal is notable for its six-story restaurant and shopping area, which includes conference rooms and a large rooftop observation deck with an open-air café, providing travelers with a pleasant experience before their flights.
Travelers can access Terminal 1 via an underground walkway connecting it to Terminal 2, or by using the free inter-terminal shuttle bus, which operates on the landside and connects all terminals. This efficient transportation system ensures smooth passenger movement between the terminals.
