HOU Central Concourse Map & Guide
This section provides insights into the Central Concourse at Houston Hobby Airport, detailing its layout, amenities, and upcoming expansion plans.
Central Concourse Info & Layout
The Central Concourse at Houston Hobby Airport is a vital hub for domestic flights, primarily serving Southwest Airlines and other major carriers. This concourse is part of the airport's single terminal, which features a total of 30 gates across its domestic and international sections.
Opened in 2003, the Central Concourse replaced older facilities dating back to the 1950s. It offers a variety of amenities for travelers, including numerous retail shops and dining options, ensuring a comfortable and convenient experience. Additionally, the concourse houses an interfaith chapel, providing a quiet space for reflection and prayer.
Passengers can access the Central Concourse via pedestrian walkways, ensuring seamless connections to other areas of the airport. While there is no automated transport system like a people mover, the layout is designed for easy navigation.
One of the unique features of Houston Hobby Airport is its implementation of full biometric entry and exit for international travelers, making it the first airport in Texas to offer this advanced technology. This feature streamlines the process for international passengers, enhancing security and efficiency.
In the near future, the Central Concourse will benefit from a significant expansion project announced by Southwest Airlines in March 2022. This $250 million project will add seven new gates to the west concourse, six of which will be dedicated to Southwest's domestic flights. The seventh gate will be available for other airlines, providing increased capacity and flexibility for the airport's operations.
