Getting Around AMS Airport
AMS Airport features a single-terminal concept which simplifies navigation considerably. All facilities are housed under one roof, organized around the central Schiphol Plaza. The terminal is segmented into three main halls, labeled 1, 2, and 3. Each hall has its own set of piers and concourses. Conveniently, you can walk between these areas before and after security checks, though do note that Schengen and non-Schengen zones are separated by border control. The exception is the low-cost Pier M; once you are airside in Pier M, you cannot move to other areas.
Here are some tips to help you get around inside the airport:
- Follow Signage: Clear signage in multiple languages will guide you to your desired section, whether you're heading to check-in, security, or your boarding gate.
- Use the Airport Map: Consider downloading or picking up an airport map. Given the airport's size and the number of gates (approximately 223), having a map can be handy, especially if your gate is at one of the far ends of the terminal.
- Plan for Walking Time: The terminal's extensive layout means that getting from one end to the other can take some time. It's wise to arrive at your gate well ahead of your boarding time, especially if you are navigating through busy areas or need extra time for shopping or dining along the way.
