Intl Terminal Info & Layout
The International Terminal at San Francisco Airport (SFO) is a pivotal hub for international flights, as well as select domestic services. It comprises two main boarding areas: Boarding Area A and Boarding Area G. The terminal is renowned for being the largest international terminal in North America and is designed to withstand earthquakes, thanks to its base isolators.
Boarding Area A features 15 gates (A1-A15), while Boarding Area G includes 14 gates (G1-G14). These areas accommodate a wide range of international airlines, with Boarding Area G primarily serving Star Alliance carriers, including all United international flights and some domestic flights. Conversely, Boarding Area A caters to SkyTeam, Oneworld, and various non-aligned international carriers, along with domestic flights from airlines like Frontier and Hawaiian Airlines.
The terminal offers a host of amenities for travelers, including a variety of dining options that reflect the culinary diversity of the San Francisco Bay Area. The terminal also houses the SFO Medical Clinic near the security screening area of Boarding Area A, providing essential healthcare services for travelers.
Passengers can access the International Terminal via the airport's BART station, which is conveniently located adjacent to the garage leading to Boarding Area G. Within the secure area, airside connectors allow for seamless movement between the International Terminal and Terminal 3, facilitating easy transfers for passengers needing to connect to other flights.
Unique features of the International Terminal include its capacity to accommodate large aircraft, such as the Airbus A380, with six gates specifically designed for this purpose. Additionally, the terminal's architecture and design, a collaboration of several renowned firms, emphasize functionality and traveler comfort, making it a noteworthy facility for air travelers at SFO.
