Getting Around TPA Airport

TPA features a central Landside Terminal, which is the hub for all ticketing and baggage services. Surrounding this central area are four Airside satellites (A, C, E, and F), each serving as distinct gate areas for flights. To move between these areas, you can use the elevated automated people mover (APM) system. This system includes 16 Bombardier Innovia APM 100 Shuttle Cars, providing quick and efficient transport across the airport.

The layout at TPA allows for easy navigation:

  • Landside Terminal: Central hub for all entry, exit, and services including baggage claim and ticketing.
  • Airsides: Each Airside (A, C, E, F) is accessible via the APM and contains its own amenities including food courts, gift shops, and smoking patios. Airsides E and F also offer duty-free shopping to accommodate international travelers.
Each Airside is clearly marked and offers various gates: Airside A and C each have 16 gates, Airside E has 13 gates, and Airside F has 14 gates. Signage and airport staff are available throughout to assist with directions and any questions you might have.

Locations of Security Checkpoint(s)

Tampa International Airport has multiple security checkpoints located throughout the airport. The main checkpoint is located on the third level of the Main Terminal, near the entrance to Airsides A, C, and F. There are also additional checkpoints located in Airsides A, C, and E. Passengers are advised to arrive at the airport at least two hours before their scheduled departure time to allow enough time to go through security.

Fast Track Lanes and Locations

Tampa International Airport offers a Fast Track program for passengers who want to expedite their security screening process. Fast Track lanes are available at the main security checkpoint on the third level of the Main Terminal, as well as in Airsides A, C, and E. The program is available to all passengers for a fee and can be purchased online or at the airport. Fast Track passengers are able to bypass the regular security lines and go through a dedicated lane, which typically results in a faster screening process.

Passport & Immigration Control Locations

Passport and immigration control at Tampa International Airport is located in the Main Terminal, near the baggage claim area. All international passengers are required to go through passport and immigration control upon arrival in the United States. The airport has several Automated Passport Control (APC) kiosks available to expedite the process for eligible passengers. These kiosks allow passengers to complete their customs declaration and biometric scan electronically, which can save time and reduce wait times in line.

TSA and TSA Pre Checkpoints

At Tampa Airport, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) operates several checkpoints to ensure the safety and security of all passengers. These checkpoints include both standard TSA checkpoints and TSA PreCheck checkpoints. TSA PreCheck is a program that allows eligible passengers to enjoy expedited screening, which means they can keep their shoes, belts, and light jackets on, and their laptops and liquids in their bags. To be eligible for TSA PreCheck, passengers must apply for and be approved for the program.

Global Entry Locations

Tampa Airport is home to a Global Entry Enrollment Center, which is located in the Main Terminal on Level 3. Global Entry is a program that allows expedited clearance for pre-approved, low-risk travelers entering the United States. To apply for Global Entry, travelers must complete an online application and schedule an interview at an enrollment center. The Tampa Airport location makes it easy for travelers in the area to apply for and enroll in the program.
